How To Pick The Right Fly Fishing Equipment

Fly fishing has been around for centuries. Today this unique angling technique is best known for catching trout or salmon. Many anglers will attempt to catch a variety of other fish using the method including bass, pike, or carp.

Those new to the fly fishing world might be overwhelmed by the large number of available fly fishing equipment. Fly fishers wear unique apparel and can chose from a number of accessories such as fly fishing tackle, float tubes, nets, lines, and reels.

Different Types Of Fly Fishing Equipment

Waders: These are typically chest high boots that are used to protect you from the water if you are wading while fly fishing. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes and should have suspenders attached to them to help keep them up. This piece of fly Fishing equipment is important for keeping you comfortable during your fishing adventure. If you are cold from the water, fly fishing will not be much fun!

Cases: Fly fishing equipment can be pricey. One of the most expensive pieces of fly fishing equipment that you will likely purchase is your rod and reel. Consider purchasing a case that will accommodate your rod and reel to help protect your investment.

Float Tubes: One new piece of fly fishing equipment you might consider purchasing is a float tube. Think of this as a giant armchair that you can sit in while you fly fish. One advantage to using a float tube is that you can fish in deeper water. Not to mention this piece of fly fishing equipment will make your fishing trip rather relaxing!

Fly Line: An important piece of fly fishing equipment that you will need to purchase. Many types are available and selecting the right type can sometimes be challenging. Selecting the wrong fly line can cause fish to avoid your fly. With fly fishing you are fishing with your line and not weights so it is important to select the right type. Ask the salesperson at your local fishing store for more information on the strength, stretch, and stiffness of the fly line.

Dressing: Products are available for purchase that you can use to treat your fly line with. The lubricants will help your line float better than a line that has not been treated and you may notice that you cast further using a treated line.

The best way to learn more about the fly fishing equipment available is to talk to a knowledgeable sales clerk and then experiment with the different products out there until you find a combination that works best for you.

Fishing Bait Lures

How easy can fishing be for an amateur? Well, fishing involves first of all having the right equipment. This is called tackle, and it normally counts the hook, the rod, the line and the reel as well as various types of fishing bait lures. In case lures are foreign language to you, well, it would probably be interesting to learn that there are at least ten types of lures that make fishing more efficient.

Surface Fishing bait lures are but one of the many types you can find in a tackle shop. It is recommended that they are used in waters that have weeds as they would not dive as the heavier ones do and thus will not get caught up in plants. Surface fishing bait lures attract fish at the surface of the water, making quite a show for the watching eye. Spoons are another category of lures worth mentioning, and they are characterized by the wobbling motion that attracts fish.

The next class of fishing bait lures is represented by spinners that owe the name to their rotating blade that sends off light to the fish deeper in the waters and tricks them into believing that the light is reflected from the scales of other fish they may prey on. Jerk baits represent the simplest form of lures available, as they have nothing special about them. However, they allow the fishermen to move the rod and the line jerkily as in imitation of other fish.

Soft baits are next on our list, and they consist of a category of fishing bait lures manufactured from soft rubber and shaped into the form of a worm or frog. We should further mention standard lures, useful for fresh waters where only light fish can be caught. These standard lures are can also be found in heavier versions when designed for larger fish like walleye or bass.

Besides the types of fishing bait lures discussed above, there are also floating divers, jigs, diamond lures and many more. For an amateur, the choice of the right lures to match the water condition and the fish living in it could be a real challenge. Research and experience influence decision making a lot when it comes to accessories and fishing gear.

Pike Fishing Lures

Pike is a fish that lives in northern regions of each continent as it prefers colder waters. The maximum length one such fish can reach is 1.83 meters and its weight can go up to 35 kilograms. If you are after pike, don't forget to take special pike fishing lures, or you'll fail to catch. Yet, you may have all the accessories possible and still be unsuccessful if you know nothing about the feeding habits and the specifics of the species.

All the baits and lures take their inspiration from the fish diet. Pike loves shoal fish and they sometimes prey on their smaller kin. Insects, amphibians and even ducklings are part of the menu if there is nothing better to find.

As for pike fishing lures, they split into four main groups, spoons, spinner baits, swim baits and live fish. Spoons work great for pike because these curious fish will be attracted by the chaotic, trembling movement of the lures. This kind of pike fishing lures also has the reputation of catching fish more rapidly than other models.

The second type of pike fishing lures, spinner baits, are also very simple to use and widely used by hobbyists. To make sure that the pike really bite, it is advisable to use large spinners and not small versions. For short bites, you can still catch the fish if you attach a trailer hook to the pike Fishing lures so that the pike may not escape.

Swim baits are another option of pike fishing lures that you can try. Usually made of plastic, these items have a major downside: the lure gets damaged when the fish bites and you have to replace it every time .

Live fish will definitely be the traditional or classic variant of pike fishing lures. Any food item that pike love will be suitable to attach in the hook, with the mention that minnows for instance will help you fish smaller pike.

Among the many piece of equipment and accessories that an angler needs for a fishing vacation, pike fishing lures are quite various and may pose difficulty in choosing. That is why, if you are not a connoisseur, before actually buying the lures for pike it is important that you talk to a more experienced angler from the area to get some tips about both the fish and the type of food it prefers.

Trout flies and spinners enjoy good popularity as well. Antique Fishing Lures

Antique fishing lures sound like something taken out of a dusted box or like the primitive rods and hooks used by our fishermen forfathers. Yet, some people collect antique fishing lures and even use them from time to time. There is a difference between new lures which are designed to look sleek and reminiscent of the live bait and older ones which do not have this particular appearance. Actually, stiffness best describes antique fishing lures. They also try to replicate a partial look of the insects used in fishing.

When you collect antique Fishing lures, they are most likely to come with a story that you'll remember and tell to friends and family when you get the occasion. Normally, classic lures will work for almost any type of fish, with some exceptions due to variation, species and habitat. Information is pretty scarce on older fishing lures, because the new models are in the spot light at present.

Although a different terminology is used for antique fishing lures, classic or old models are still available with some stores. Internet sites and some auction houses may be the right places to visit for such acquisitions. These places usually have different varieties of fishing lures in stock and the prices they ask for are also different from one source to another depending on certain factors. Sometimes you can get certain antique models in modern shops together with recent designs, either for comparison or just for the sake of diversity. Hobbists could also give one some hints about where to find more for your collection.

When searching the Internet for antique fishing lures, you may also come across some very interesting materials on the history of fishing, the evolution of fishing gear and the tradition of the manufacturers. You can also find books and guides, collectors' information as well as specialized publications such as fishing magazines.

Some antique fishing lures are sold for small fortunes, but there are buyers for them despite the very high costs. Such highly valuable designs can be even one hundred years old, and they usually belong to mature collections that are occasionally sold at auctions. To give some approximated price, we'd say they range between $1,000 and $5,000. They usually end up in the possession of passionate collectors who belong to exclusive groups. From time to time other collectors try to step into this group but they cannot be considered buyers at the first level.

Rapala Fishing Lures

Whether famous brands or no-names, there are lots of companies out there for fishing that produce everything you can think of in the branch from rods and hooks to fishing lures. Heddon and Rapala are two names with tradition in this business. And the history of the Rapala company is told by some of the oldest items they produce such as the Rapala fishing lures. The lure production was initiated some 60 years ago. The products are clearly crafted from experience and the company's track record and current unique distribution network, brand portfolio and manufacturing brand gives it a great position for further growth.

Rapala fishing lures came from Finland, originally. Lauri Rapala, the one who founded the business, was born in Finland in 1905 in a poor family, later in life making a buck by working on farms and Fishing. As the saying goes 'Necessity is the mother of invention', so did Rapala decide to improve his fishing productivity, by developing a better lure. The prototype for Rapala fishing lures saw daylight in 1936 in the form of a carved lure that caused an off-center and wobbled in the water. This initial model is still the basis for a lot of the Rapala fishing lures.

Lauri Rapala's business had blossomed just before World War II. After the war Rapala revived his small lure making enterprise. Lauri Rapala made the fishing lures himself at first, but in time, the craft was also learned by some other family members. Since the very first days of the company, high emphasis was put on testing, and all the Rapala fishing lures still have to go through a rigorous quality checking process.

After the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952, foreign visitors were among the first who took Rapala fishing lures beyond the country's borders to other countries. From this moment, exports started, first toSweden and Norway and then to the USA. In 1957 the business got formalized and the Rapala and Sons / Rapala-Uistin company was established. Further business exposure was achieved with the publication of a complex article in the pages of Life Magazine in 1962. It was perhaps because the same magazine issue wrote about Marlyn Monroe's death that Rapala fishing lures increased their popularity in America, even if the quality of the products contributed most to the market impression.

After the success in the States, Rapala went international, copies having been made after their products. The company has defended itself against these copies both by taking legal actions and, more importantly, by continuing the production of consistent high quality equipment that has always made the difference between the original products and the copies.

Old Fishing Lures

Old fishing lures for $5 a piece on eBay, this is a bargain many hobbyists will take. There are also passionate collectors who are actually after the really old lures that have not seen the light of day for something like 80 years and more, and which have been kept in special recipients for this particular purpose. The latter group - the collectors, are those who tend to spend sums ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for one old lure only. There is another category of people interested in old lures who oscillate between the eBay old lures and the real collector's ones. But the purchase of the really valuable items remains limited to an elite group of fishermen, because the rest of the enthusiasts may be simply interested in the hobby and not that much in classic equipment. They come into contact with the collectors and their pieces but do not become real members.

On a basic search online, you should be able to find useful info on old fishing lures. With some websites, you will benefit from a lot of information regarding the history of the products available as well as advice on how you can buy them or how to start or continue organizing your own old fishing lures collection. In addition, pictures serve for products promotion, either to just present historic details or to illustrate product specificity. If there are also some interesting stories to tell about some old fishing lures, that's all the better, because hunting and fishing go well with story telling.

If you want some old fishing lures for the catch, and not just to display them in collections, you'll still find some classic or traditional models in regular fishing stores. Besides web sites and fishing stores, you can find tips in magazines, guides and books. These magazines contain a lot of useful information on both new and old fishing lures, fish habitat and behavior, fishing gear and Fishing techniques. Therefore, finding tackle and lures should be easy.

Although new lures are more specialized and definitely preferred by hobbyists, old fishing lures have one feature to call an advantage: their suitability for more fishing instances. In the past people did not have lures specialized for different types of fish as the manufacturers have developed the new ones lately. The new lures are sleek and designed to resemble live bait. On the contrary the old ones are a lot stiffer and simply imitate the bait in very rough lines.

A Valuable Fishing Tip

Fishing used to be a basic occupation but not it just makes a great hobby. Why is it so loved by people all over the world? Is it because when you take up fishing you have the opportunity to evade from the maddening urban existence and get a chance to finally relax? Probably this is just one reason that'd explain the great joy of fishing. Anyway, in spite of the relaxation this hobby undoubtedly provides, it can also give you a hard time especially if you are keen on doing it properly and with some satisfying results too. Therefore, besides the choice of the proper fishing tackle, you might also need a Fishing tip every once in a while. Depending on the kind of information you are interested in, you will be able to find the longed for fishing tip either from your friends that share your hobby or from fishing books.

Speedy research results represent the main advantage of the Internet when you look for a particular fishing tip. It is faster and, besides, you can discover not only the necessary fishing tip you were looking for but also funny stories of what happened to other fishermen during various expeditions. When you start a query for the 'fishing tip', the search engines will bring up lots of sites and web pages to match your specifications; then all you need to do is take your pick.

More experienced fishermen that post comments in forums, chat rooms and on blogs can give great information on many practical situations. Thus, an ice fishing tip recommends the change of the lure with an airplane jig and the use of only fresh live bait to keep the fish biting. This common piece of info works great for anyone who wants to catch pike or walleye.

Here is what another fisherman suggests as an efficient fishing tip for boat angling situations. Though it sounds difficult, some people claim that it is very conveninet to take plenty of pre-rigged fishing rods, to make maneuvers easier. If you do so, you gain a lot by the amount of time you save and actually get to focus on the fish catching more. Whether this is a useful fishing tip or not, it's for you to decide.

Regarding catching a good-size fish, a fishing tip says to combine baits on the same hook. Thus, stick both corn and crawlers on the same hook so as to increase the chances for a good catch. There are plenty of other fishing tips, usually concerning the most common challenges fishermen have encountered, so that you can extend the seach and make it as comprehensive as necessary.
